Moving Away From Home? Why One Bedroom Apartments Are The Best Option

Renting is on the rise, and more people are renting now than over the past fifty years. While many might still picture the American dream as owning a home with a white picket fence, a lot of young folks are moving away from that stereotype.

As more young people move away from home, they see the financial benefits of renting, as opposed to owning. This goes double for those living in a bigger city. However, for those thinking of taking the plunge and moving out on their own, the question remains, “What option is best for me?”.

The Benefits Of Apartment Rentals

If you’re thinking of making the big move away from home, you may be wondering if renting is for you. One bedroom apartments, in particular, are readily available, and are perfect for those just starting out. A couple more benefits you can expect are:

  • No Need For Roommates. For young adults leaving home, looking for roommates may seem like a logical choice. However, a one bedroom apartment does away with the need for living with someone else. Single bedroom apartments are often cheaper than two bedroom options, meaning you’re less likely to need an additional help paying the rent. This means you have the freedom to do what you want in your new place, without worrying about working around a roommate. Additionally, if this is your first time out on your own, you want to make the most out of your new found freedom!

If standard one bedroom apartments still seem out of reach, or you’re looking for the most bang for your buck, studio apartments are also an option, and can often offer a smaller, but functional living space. An added benefit of studio living is having few rooms to worry about cleaning!
  • Smaller Spaces. Jumping off from that last point, less can sometimes mean more. If you’re just leaving home and starting on your own, you’re unlikely to have a lot of furniture to fill large spaces. Renting a two bedroom apartment might sound like a good idea, until you realize you don’t have anything to fill the space. One bedroom apartments or studio flats gives you space to grow, but not so much that you’ll start out feeling barren.

As I touched on above, this also means you’ll have less to clean, and an easier time keeping things tidy. (It also means that you can quickly impress your parents with how neat you’re keeping everything!)
  • Saving Money. A one bedroom or studio apartment can help you save on, not only rent, but on bills in general. Having a smaller place means you’ll be using less energy on heating, cooling, and electricity in general. The savings you earn with living small can be put towards decorating your new place, treating yourself to a spa day, or paying off those pesky student loans.

If your preparing to move away from home and venture out on your own, renting a smaller one bedroom apartment can turn out to be the best first step. It gives you low cost option that allows for growth without the need for a roommate. Gradually furnishing, and fixing up the space to be your own, can also give you a sense of accomplishment that would be hard to find otherwise. Apartment complexes can usually be found through quick online searches; however, speaking to a local realtor can also offer insight on the best locations, and hidden bargains, in your area.
