  3. Check out the crime rate. Are there any homebuyers who are looking for a high crime area? Of course not. You can look for areas where there is a good school and that is one indication of how the crime rate is in the area. Even if you do not have children, knowing that the property you are looking at is near a good school can help you see how safe and secure the neighborhood is. There are also a number of online tools that can show you what the crime rate is in the area where you are looking to buy a house.
  4. Make sure you check out the neighborhood at different times of the day and throughout the week. That really quaint neighborhood on a Tuesday afternoon may be super shady and sketchy at night or on the weekend. When you are looking for the ideal neighborhood for you and your family, you need to get to know the area where you want to live before you but a home there. This can take some time but it will be worth it when you find the home and neighborhood of your dreams.
  5. Look for activities you enjoy. If you enjoy sports or other outdoor activities, you should really find a neighborhood where you can take part in those. Many people find living in an area that has a lot of options for sports and other things active people like to do and there are a lot of neighborhoods around the country. Even in the most urban places such as New York City and Los Angeles, it is possible to be as physically active as you want to be.
  6. Check on the public transportation situation. Many areas in cities and towns have really great public transportation systems that can help people who either do not have a car or do not want to drive. If you want to use alternative ways to get to work, find out about public transportation and bike paths. More and more people are opting to bike to work, this is a good way to get more exercise and decrease your carbon footprint at the same time. Areas where people do this a lot tend to be more livable that where everyone drives everywhere.
  7. If you have small children, finding a family friendly area can be key to finding that ideal neighborhood. This can mean that there are other families with young children in the area who can play with your kids. Some neighborhoods pool together to supply reliable and quality child care for the families who live in the neighborhood.

When you are looking for a house for sale, there are a lot of subjective factors that come into play. The ideal neighborhood for one person and family may not work as well for another.
